Lab Activities: Phenology Exercises

Phenology exercises are a great way to show students what the changing plants really signal in the natural world. By encouraging students to record their data in a log book, you can teach them the importance of accurate data collection in addition to the natural cycles of phenology.

To monitor phenology, Project BudBurst has created the exercises below for teachers and students, involving choosing a focal plant, recording its initial conditions as well as the conditions of the area around the plant, and observing the plant daily, recording phenological changes.
